Front Row Washington
Front Row Washington presents "The Brahms Effect" from Chamber Music at the Barns at Wolf Trap. Brahms was a major force and influence, from his symphonies to his chamber music. In this performance, we hear two of his iconic trios, one of them composed at a time when he had nothing to prove. Following the trios is a work that shows his influence decades into the 20th century.
Classical Breakdown
In the newest episode on Classical Breakdown, we explore 6 works written by living Black composers. There is a variety too, from music for violin and piano, quartet, clarinet and strings, to the full symphony orchestra!
NSO Showcase
From February 16 to the 28th, the National Symphony Orchestra will be touring Europe, traveling in Spain, Germany and Italy. Music Director Gianandrea Noseda will bring the NSO to his home city, Milan, with a performance at the Teatro alla Scala on February 26th. In honor of this musical homecoming, WETA Classical’s NSO Showcase will feature two Italian favorites by Respighi, Trittico Botticelliano and Fontane di Roma. We’ll also pay tribute to the German portion of the tour with a performance of Schumann’s “Rhenish” Symphony and take a musical side trip with Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances. The episode features musical excerpts from a live performance by critically-acclaimed chamber orchestra, the Sphinx Virtuosi, and stories told by the musicians, leaders, and educators whose lives have been changed by Sphinx. It also explores the pivotal role Sphinx has played in expanding diversity in the arts.
