Choral Showcase
As part of WETA Classical's "Rachmaninoff 150" celebration, Choral Showcase presents two of his choral classics on Sept 3. Written in 1926 during the first decade of the composer's exile from his native country , Three Russian Folk Songs reflects a simpler time he considered long since passed. From 1913, The Bells, based on a poem by Edgar Allan Poe, inspires Rachmaninoff to present the sounds of wintry sleigh bells, golden wedding bells, bells of alarm, and bells of mourning. This work will also be presented by Gianandrea Noseda and the National Symphony Orchestra as part of their Rachmaninoff 150 tribute, in collaboration with The Choral Arts Society of Washington, Sept 28-30 at the Kennedy Center.
