Washington, D.C. — Pizza in Washington, a new local program from WETA TV 26, explores the flourishing pizza scene in Greater Washington. The documentary visits a dozen eateries, offering pizza from authentic Neapolitan to classic New York style, that embody the region’s pizza renaissance. Pizza in Washington premieres Tuesday, May 7 at 8 p.m. on WETA TV 26 and airs throughout the month.
“As Washington’s local public television station, we are proud to once again feature local flavor, sights and sounds with a new program that provides an inside look into several top area pizzerias and the fascinating stories behind them,” commented Kevin Harris, vice president and television station manager of WETA. “Pizza in Washington is a dynamic, fun program that showcases one of the region’s favorite foods.”
The latest half-hour documentary from WETA reveals great places to enjoy pizza throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. — from one restaurant with an oven made out of rock from Mt. Vesuvius, to another whose pizza is certified authentic in Naples, to a pizza truck that serves New York-style to on-the-go customers around town. Meet the chefs and enthusiasts who are passionate about their pie, serving their customers delicious pizzas to share with colleagues, friends and family.
Pizza in Washington continues a rich tradition of local programming on WETA Television that demonstrates the station’s commitment to the community, spotlighting its people, places and cultural offerings. Following the tradition of previous WETA productions such as Breakfast in Washington, Neighborhood Eats and WETA Guide to Fine Dining (available for streaming at weta.org), Pizza in Washington features a notable selection of Greater Washington eateries. Featured pizzerias include a long-time Washington fixture that has been offering deep-dish, thick-crust pizza since the 1970’s, a pizzeria that is a community institution in Bethesda and a Falls Church favorite that serves classic Neapolitan pies.
