These nominees are working to reduce the problem of waste with global impact. Circ is an American textile company with an effective way to recycle polycotton; in India, S4S is working with farmers to take spoiled produce and turn it into a product; and in the UK, Colorifix have developed a new, biological process to fix dye to fabrics – reducing chemical and water use.

Abalobi work with fishers in South Africa to use an app to track and trace their catch; based in the Philippines, Coastal 500 are a network of leaders who support each other in looking after our oceans; and Wildaid Marine Program work across the world to scale marine protection.

    These nominees are all fighting to combat. In South America, Acción Andina are working with indigenous communities to restore the high forests of the Andes; in Brazil, Belterra work with local farmers to promote agroforestry systems – growing crops amongst native trees and shrubs; and in Sierra Leone, Freetown is working with locals to plant trees to protect residents from floods and landslides.

    These nominees urgently focus on reducing carbon emissions and slowing global heating. Boomitra work with farmers across the world to promote soil health and the capture of carbon through satellite technology; in America Aquacycl are innovating in reducing the carbon needed in treating wastewater; and in Tasmania, Sea Forest have developed a seaweed-based supplement to feed to livestock.

    These nominees are fighting to provide us a healthier environment to breathe. In London, ENSO have created new tires for electric cars that significantly reduce rubber pollution; in Poland, Polish Smog Alert campaign for clean air legislation and an end to the use of coal in urban environments; and in Hong Kong and China, GRST have developed a new type of Lithium battery.
