From its now traditional Ugly Sweater Holiday Concert at The Anthem on December 4th to the yearly celebration of Handel’s Messiah from December 19-22, the National Symphony Orchestra invites you to share in the holiday spirit.  There are more musical “gifts” beneath the NSO tree: A Holiday Pops! With special guest Jessica Vosk and the Heritage Signature Chorale and featuring Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre as narrator December 6 & 7; KEM Home for the Holidays, December 11 and 12; the Celtic Woman White Christmas Symphony Tour, December 13 and 14.

Washington National Opera gets in on the fun, too with The Jungle Book, December 13-15 and a special concert featuring Marion Anderson Vocal Award winner Key’mon Murrah on December 17.

Fortas Chamber Music Series presents the Jasper String Quartet on December 5 and the Miró String Quartet on December 19 at the Terrace Theater.

And of course there are always free festivities on the Millenium Stage.

While you are visiting the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to enjoy these many artistic offerings, don’t forget to take the time to peruse the Art and Ideals exhibition. Take inspiration from some of Kennedy’s thoughts on the arts...for example: “I look forward to an America which will not be afraid of grace and beauty.” Or “I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we, too, will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics, but for our contribution to the human spirit.”

Happy holidays.
