Fashion industry attempts to preserve artisan craftwork

In the 1980s, about 70 percent of clothes sold in the U.S. were made in the country. Today, it’s down to just three percent. One of the casualties is traditional craftwork like weaving fabric, cutting leather and polishing gemstones. The fashion industry is now trying to preserve these crafts. Despite strong support among women of color, Vice President Kamala Harris lost ground with nearly every other demographic group compared to Joe Biden in 2020. Several cabinet secretaries and staff gathered in the Rose Garden as Biden praised Harris’ campaign and sent an optimistic message about the accomplishments of their administration.
